What is a time stamp and how does it work?

A time stamp is an important element of eSigning which enables organizations to keep track of when exactly was a document signed.

Our certificate used to sign PDF documents might optionally include a time stamp URL. Adobe (and other supporting applications) can then use the URL to gain access to our RFC 3161 trusted clock.

This assures relying parties of the exact date and time of the signature.
